The Mathematics Department at Bearsden Academy aims to provide a learning experience which challenges, stimulates and supports all pupils as they journey toward achieving their full mathematical potential.
We want everyone at Bearsden Academy to become confident with mathematics.
We hope that the resources on these pages will help you with your studies in the subject.
Broad General Education
S1 pupils will follow courses based around Second and Third Level Experiences and Outcomes from the Mathematics and Numeracy curricular area. The majority of pupils will be working at Third Level, progressing from P7, although it may be more appropriate for some pupils to do some further work at Second Level depending on the information received from Primary school.
S2 pupils will follow courses based around Third and Fourth Level Experiences and Outcomes from the Mathematics and Numeracy curricular area. The majority of pupils will be working at Third Level, progressing from S1, although it may be more appropriate for some pupils to do some further work at Second Level depending on their performance in S1.
S3 pupils will follow courses based around Third and Fourth Level Experiences and Outcomes from the Mathematics and Numeracy curricular area. The majority of pupils will be working at Fourth Level, progressing from S2, although it may be more appropriate for some pupils to do some further work at Second and Third Level depending on their performance in S1 and S2.
Assessment
Assessment will be ongoing throughout S1-S3. Assessment evidence will be gathered from daily activities and planned assessment tasks. The evidence considered, will show that learners have understood a significant amount of knowledge and will have used a range of Mathematical skills. Pupils will be assessed on how well they have coped with core experiences and how they have been able to apply what they have learned in unfamiliar situations. Pupils will self and peer assess in addition to teacher lead activities. Learner’s progress will be judged on the work pupils say, write, make and do.
